Bandwidth A rate of data transfer measured in bits per second (bps)
B-GAN Broadband Global Area Network- it’s a small satellite dish. When connected it gives the customer voice, video and data transmittal capability.
Codec Compressor-Decompressor. A codec encodes a data stream or signal for transmission, storage or encryption, or decodes it for playback or editing. Codecs are used in videoconferencing, streaming media and video editing applications.

First Responder A local or regional response team that receives the initial call to an incident.
FXS & FXO   Method to connect an analog phone or PSTN network to a VoIP system

IP Internet Protocol
Interoperability   A property of a product or system, whose interfaces are completely understood, to work with other products or systems, present or future, without any restricted access or implementation.

LAN  Local Area Network. Is a computer network that connects computers and devices in a limited geographical area such as home, school or office building.

PBX  Private Branch Exchange- a private telephone network with a company. The users of the PBX phone system share a number of outside lines for making calls.
PSTN    Public Switched Telephone Network
P25 Project 25 or APCO -25. Is a suite of standards for digital radio communications for use by federal, state/province and local public safety agencies in North America to enable them to communicate with other agencies and mutual aid response teams in emergencies.
QoS   Quality of Service. Quality of service is the ability to provide different priority to different applications, users, or data flows, or to guarantee a certain level of performance to a data flow.
Radio (Two-way). A device that can both transmit and receive (a transceiver), unlike a broadcast receiver which only receives content
Radio Gateway    A device that enables different radio frequencies to be linked for interoperable communications across all radio frequencies
Resilient Ability to communicate when all other systems are disrupted
RU    Rack Unit – used to measure how much space will be consumed in a given rack space
SIP Session Initiation Protocol - a standard to make a voice call over the Internet

Throughput Average rate of successful message delivery over a communication channel
SoS   System of Systems or a singular operating system made up of multiple integrated systems

VoIP Voice over Internet Provider or over the internet
VSAT Very Small Aperture Terminal- a VSAT is a small size telecommunications earth station that transmits and receives Voice, Video and Data via a satellite.
WAN  Wide Area Network. Is a computer network that covers a broad area.
WiFi  Wireless Fidelity. A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, video game console, smartphone or digital audio player can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to the Internet.
3G 3rd Generation. Is a generation of standards for mobile phones and mobile telecommunication services fulfilling specifications by the International Telecommunication Union. Application services include wide-area wireless voice telephone, mobile internet access, video calls and mobile TV, all in a mobile environment. 
4G 4rd Generation. 4G stands for the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards. Speed requirements for 4G service set the peak download speed at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication
802.11 a/b/g  aka WiFi. Is a set of standards carrying out wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz frequency bands
802.11 G4.9  Is a standard that uses a particular frequency designated to emergency responders (4.9 GHz)
